In September 2005, two unique companies who were each developing optical devices and subsystems, combined to create what is now Polatis Incorporated. Polatis Limited (founded in 2000, now the United Kingdom operations), and Continuum Photonics (founded in 1998, now the North American operations), combined products, technologies and resources to further their strategic goals in the optical communications markets.
The Polatis philosophy is simple. It is to bring together the brightest innovative minds, together with highly experienced industry veterans, to enable the development of a unique set of products in the optical communications arena. The Polatis team draws upon talented innovators from some of the best research institutions in the world, like MIT and Cambridge University, with a wealth of experience in optics, mechanics, and transmission systems. It harnesses innovations through prudent risk-taking in the hands of highly experienced business professionals from leading companies in the communications, data, and IT industries.

Our mission is to become the leaders in optical layer connectivity, providing solutions into all major communications, data, and defense systems providers. To meet this mission, we have leveraged smart capital to develop and commercialize a family of products, built upon a unique set of technologies. Technologies, such as the patented DirectLight technology, provide a new benchmark for physical layer switching and optical integration. This technology forms the foundation for a new class of tunable devices and systems, including optical switches, network monitoring devices, video signal switching, and many others.
The Polatis team is building a global business to support customers around the world. Our DirectLight technology leads the way in next generation optical switching, from the industry's highest performance, to design flexibility and enhanced features that allow Polatis to address the widest range of customers and markets. Whether our customer chooses one of the Polatis standard systems, a solution in cooperation with one of our Alliance Partners, or engages our Custom Solutions Group to supply a subsystem for an integrated optical transport product, Polatis has the product innovation and experience to bring these solutions to light.
